Ghana Black Star’s Deputy Captain, Thomas Partey has officially joined Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab, bringing an end to his time in Spain and opening a new chapter in his distinguished club career.
Saudi Pro League side ‘Al-Shabab’ have also confirmed the signing on.
The experienced midfielder arrived in Riyadh early Monday morning as he completed the final formalities of his move to the Saudi Arabian outfit. Partey joins Al Shabab as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Spanish club Villarreal, where he spent the 2025/26 season.
This transfer indicates another major move for the 33-year-old midfielder, who has built an impressive career across some of Europe’s biggest leagues.
Thomas Partey previously made his name at Atletico Madrid before moving to Arsenal, where he established himself as an important member of the squad during his time in the Premier League.
During his stint with the North London club, Partey made 130 appearances and scored nine goals across competitions. His strength, tactical awareness, passing ability and experience made him a key figure in Arsenal’s midfield.
After leaving Arsenal in 2025, Partey moved to Villarreal on a free transfer and featured 25 times in all competitions during his only season with the Spanish side.
His move to Al Shabab now provides the Ghanaian International Footballer with another competitive environment and an opportunity to continue playing regularly at a high level. The Saudi Pro League has attracted several established international players in recent years, and Thomas Partey’s experience is expected to add further quality to the Al Shabab midfield.
With this new chapter of his club career now beginning in Saudi Arabia, the midfielder will hope to maintain his fitness, form and influence while continuing to serve as one of the senior figures in the Ghana national team.
The former Arsenal midfielder, who made 167 appearances for the Gunners between 2020 and 2025, became a free agent this summer when Villarreal decided against extending his expiring contract.
